About Tiranel

The island kingdom of Tiranel sits just west of the mainland, and consists of six disparate islands.

Tiranel is made up of six disparate islands. At its heart lies King’s Island, the largest and most temperate, home to the capital, Highvale, where the King and Queen rule.

To the west, Storm’s Reach Island is rocky and sparsely inhabited, serving as a natural shield against storms from the sea. Azure Island, also mountainous and largely uninhabited, hosts the Summer Palace, the royal family’s annual retreat.

Fieldstone Island supports small villages and provides the islands’ fish, grain, and timber. Between the larger islands lie the Stonesmere Archipelago, a cluster of tiny islands connected by shallow waterways.

Finally, Shale Island and Stoneshore Island are rocky and inhospitable, home to little but jagged cliffs and the occasional seabird.

Tiranel is a monarchy, ruled by the royal family and supported by a structured nobility. Beneath them are merchants and tradespeople, with peasants forming the base of society. A council of ministers administers the government at the King’s pleasure.

The kingdom maintains a professional army and navy, both well-equipped and well-trained, ready to defend its islands and enforce the crown’s will.

Tiranel is a pre-industrial society. Travel is by horse and wagon or by wooden sailing ship.

Some ships are armed with cannon, but personal firearms do not exist. Bladed weapons are the preferred arms, and ranged weapons are rare.

Long range communications are achieved by courier, or via silverquill, a homing bird.

Tiranel recognizes three deities, collectively called the Keepers. Temples stand in the larger cities, while rural villages often maintain simple shrines.
